Oulton Park and Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuits….these are the two of my absolute favourites in the UK that I’ve raced on so far in my career. It is where I have had some of my best results and for three particular reasons.
- They both have a completely natural layout that totally dictate the circuits
- They are both fast and flowing and reward 100% commitment and precision
- They are both very technical tracks where the driver makes the difference
Having now been to Nurburgring with GTROC recently and last year Le Mans with Nissan, I know which tracks I simply HAVE to race on in the future. My Dad (Simon Hill) was hosting the hospitality suite at Le Mans for Darren Cox of Nissan and is doing so again this year – wish I was there again!
But for now, I’m within a whisker of racing at Oulton Park next weekend (9th & 10th June) in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup which supports the DunlopMSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), driving for my old team, Tollbar Racing in a 370bhp Ginetta G55 Cup Car.
I’ve raced for Tollbar since I was 14, first driving a Ginetta G20 Junior for them at Mallory Park in October 2008….then did the Winterseries… led my second ever race and finished on the Podium at Rockingham so I knew I was competitive and love racing with the Team who are like my second family to me.
In my last blog I outlined some of my career to date, and having tested the G55 as well as the HEICO Mercedes SLS AMG, I know I am competitive.
Last year I moved up to the 300 bhp G50 class of the GT Supercup…it was tough but as the youngest driver in the series I was pleased to be the only driver to finish on the podium at every circuit – a total of 17 times – and took 4 Wins….and was fastest in testing at Oulton and Brands GP, and on Pole at Brands by nearly a second…
This year has been tough not racing; lots of drivers are in the same boat. My Dad and other close friends like John Miskin are always working to find a way to get me racing, and the opportunity to race a G55 at Oulton of all places would be superb. I know we’re gradually getting there in terms of the funding needed but are still a bit short…hopefully we’ll get there because I KNOW I can continue my run of wins at Oulton!
I am an optimist and let me finish by saying that I WILL be racing at Oulton Park next weekend, and once the final pieces of the jigsaw are put into place, I will be testing there on Friday, qualifying and racing on Saturday and live TV final race on Sunday. Just need that magic extra £4,000 and it’s a done deal….
